Medicare will reimburse for a 'hospital bed', known as a semi-electric bed (SEB) with a physicians prescription and order that ascertains that the device meets necessary criteria. An SEB has two motors that elevate the head section and foot sections of the bed frame, thus raising the mattress. There is a full-electric bed that has a third motor to raise the entire frame in relation to the floor. On an SEB, a hand-crank at the foot does this function.
